Multiplayer -- jerking cars

Postby trevdebow » Fri May 24, 2013 12:03 pm

Hi
On multiplayer your opponents car seems to be displayed intermittently as it passes you. Could this be a server problem. Running windows 7 with 2 pc linked, one of which is running the server.

Any ideas.

many thanks

Hi Trev,

Can you run the server on a dedicated computer?
And decrease the "Thread Delay" value up to 1 or 2 ms on the server.

Upd:

Besides try to increase LATENCY/SMOOTHNESS value up to 3 or 4 steps in the XMR.

Re: Multiplayer -- Lets start the race together

Hi Eugene
Now that the two rigs are up and running #about 98%! Two students came in to test drive the cars, so a multilayer race was on, oops; I just could not figure out how to get both cars lined up on the grid with one set of staring lights getting the race going. As each player joined they had there own staring lights (mid top and left of screen) counting them in the race. How do I get XRM to wait for the players to join and start the race together. I think this is a simple one one answer, makes me feel rather dim.

Many thanks

Thanks for the info, Trev.

I will check the counting in a day or two. Just working on the multiplayer right now.

Hi Eugene

After working with the dedicated server, are there any on line servers. If so how do get to them.

Many thanks

Hi Trev,

I support only servers for v1.42 atm and sometimes for v1.43.
Hope to run some v1.43 servers 24/7 soon.
All the servers are available via List Of Hosts.

As to your questions above. You need to set up the servers.
For example: 1st session as Practice, say 5-10 minutes.
2nd session as Race, for example 55 laps.
All can connect during Practice and start a race after it at once.

If it was that simple Eugene, then people would be doing it already, and you would be rich by now. I told you a year ago about this. I told you that this is the only thing that matters about XMR. You have chosen to fix a lot of things in that time, and some were great changes, but almost nothing you have done this year has been as important to XMR as getting a race, online or via LAN, to start, somewhere in the world. YOU WILL REMAIN POOR UNTIL RACING IS POSSIBLE IN XMR.

I guess there were are some problems because of NAT.
Maybe people don't know how to adjust their NAT.
Anyway, the first server in the Netherlands has been started.
As I said, I hope to run a server in Australia and maybe in US.

I tried your server in Netherlands, and the ping was about the same as the previous servers, which as we know was pretty poor. With pings of 25 to 250, Multi-player would be hard, so I will wait until I can try the Australian server. Would it be possible to have Bathurst on the Australian Pro server when it starts?

There are some problems with NAT. Why is XMR the only game in the world where I am required to change settings in the NAT to serve a race online? My system admin will not change the settings, and I, although I am willing to, I am not ABLE to without the password. I would have to live somewhere else to serve XMR. I don't see why you can't fix this like every other game has. Most people are unwilling to try something like manually opening ports on their router. Especially if the router puts up a warning, like "This will void your warranty and may cause the router to fail permanently". You are computer literate to a university level, where most people are either at primary school level or fully illiterate. Most people don't know how to, or are prevented from trying to adjust their NAT.

By the way, nVidea has a new App for configuring PCs to run well with various games, called GFExperience. It is a new system but it works well with Dirt 3 and Team Fortress. Could you get XMR onto their list one day?
