Car Making

Modding is a strong side of XMR.
I will show how to create a car for XMR in this thread. This can be useful for creating a car from scratch or importing.
The same will be done for creating tracks.

XMR Editor allows prepare tracks and cars and insert them into the game.
You can import any 3d model (whole track/car or single object like tree, house, driver body, tire etc) from 3dsmax. You can also create your own track without 3d max.
Tracks and cars are saved in different ways.
File types.
.tdo – single or some objects of track/car/object
.wld – world project that contains system info about a scene.
.we – world environment that contains all materials, markers, cameras, lines etc
.trc – texture packet. All textures must be as .tga files.
.mtl – materials of scene/car that can be imported/exported
.mss – markers of scene/car that can be imported/exported

A typical algorithm of the creating car:
1. Creating/importing 3d model with textures in 3d max, but without materials. XMR uses its own material system.
2. Exporting a car from 3d max as .tdo to XMR Editor with export plug-in (can be found in ..XMREd\3dmax_export_plugin folder).
3. Setup of graphic materials for all objects.
4. Setup of physics properties for all bodies.
5. Setup of suspension and wheels.
6. Damage model of an external body.
7. Cockpit.
8. Damage model of a cockpit.
9. Export to the game.
10. Sounds of a car.
11. Physics of a car.

You can download ready models of the F430 and export them to XMR.
It's better to understand it when you have a sample. It’s packed with the 7-Zip.

Hi there,
I'd like to create a car and I'm able to use blender for 3d modelling, it has the ability to export in 3ds and then I should be allright for the xmr tool... is there something I have to consider because of the use of blender? or do you suggest me to migrate to 3ds max?

thanks

Hi Fabry,

Although I'm not a blender user, but I'd suggest you to migrate to 3ds max.
One of the reason is the animation. You can export driver's animation from 3ds max directly.

I will think about making a video tutorial after 1.44 release of the game and editor.
So far, you can have a look at this topic that contains a lot of useful information about car creation:
